The Department of Information and Tourism of the Taipei City Government launched the Chinese edition of the Taipei Pass, featuring leaflets that highlighted recommendations for backpacking tours and discount information at 32 business establishments.

The Department of Information and Tourism of the Taipei City Government relocated the mainframe of the Taipei Travel Net to GSN DMZ, to support bilateral web link services between the Taipei Travel Net with the official Chinese website in China. The measure helped to promote tourism in Taipei directly among Chinese consumers, and was a pioneering project among all local administrations.

The Department of Information and Tourism of the Taipei City Government set up “Fun Taipei” (http://weibo.com/taipeitravelnet) (Chinese)on Weibo, to market Taipei City’s tourism to Chinese consumers. Taipei again pioneered the country in setting up the project.

The Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications hosted “Taiwan’s Top 10 Travel Temptations.” “Fashion Xinyi” and “Small Town Beitou” were chosen as two of the “Travel Temptations.” “Fashion Xinyi” also won the “Bright Spot Community with the Most International Tourism Potential” special award.

2012/06/05 The Department of Information and Tourism assisted Junior Chamber International’s Eastern Sea Committee in hosting the 39th “Boat of Youths – the Eastern Sea - Youth Japan Conference,” where 602 participants walking simultaneously on 603 pairs of feet, setting a new Guinness Record.

The Department of Information and Tourism partnered with website service providers in mainland China, allowing Chinese tourists to apply for free Internet services via “Taipei Free” (officially known as Taipei Free Public Wi-Fi Access) prior to their arrival in Taiwan.

The Taipei City Government and App Angry Birds co-hosted the rollout of a new game, “Bad Piggies.” Taipei City was the first city in the world to unveil the game. Advertisements about Bad Piggies and Taipei were shown on the outer wall of the Taipei 101 skyscraper to market Taipei.

The Department of Information and Tourism hosted “the Taipei City Visual Marketing Rollout for Tourism Taipei,” introducing several visual marketing designs representative of Taipei: 1 Tourism Cloud, 5 spokespeople, and 21 Taipei-centric centerpieces. It was the nation’s first effort ever to promote city tourism through brand architecture.

The Visitor Information Centers at Taipei City won the first place in the group category for the “2012 Review and Assessment of Services by the Tourist Service Centers across Taiwan to Upgrade Quality,” organized by the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications. Visitor Information Centers at the Taipei Main Station and East Metro Mall won the first and second places, respectively, in the individual category.

The Department of Information and Tourism designed and produced print and electronic promotional ads for the 2017 Summer Universiade – to be hosted in Taipei. The ads are played on international cable channels, globally-circulated print media, outdoor electronic media, and on the internet. The ads are now promoting Universiade in cities across Europe, the U.S, and Asia. The promotional event ended on December 31.

The Discovery Center of Taipei renovated its entrance on the first floor. The main wall is now installed with a large-size mesh LED display that plays multilayered images and ground projections to improve service quality.

Conducted “1600 Pandas World Tour – Taipei”. Exhibited 1,600 paper pandas by French artist Paulo Grangeon in Civic Plaza and C.K.S. Memorial Hall Plaza. In addition to the paper pandas, 200 paper-made Formosan black bears were also showcased. The exhibition, ended on March 30, attracted a total of 3.03 millions of visitors.

Organized “Friendly Tour in Taipei” Experience project. One of the achievements of the project was to introduce artworks in MRT trains and platform doors. The project ended on January 31, 2015.

Department of Information and Tourism, Taipei City Government launched “Sky Project”. The project requested companies of cable TV, Fixed Network, power and transportation to re-organize their wires on major roads longer than 15 meters in one year. The ownership of this project was moved to Public Works Department, Taipei City Government on July 1.

Located on third floor of Discovery Center of Taipei, Exhibition Hall has been re-decorated and opened. Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je was invited to attend the opening exhibition; hence to promote the specialty of this new exhibition area.

Department of Information and Tourism, Taipei City Government hosted “The Spirit of Taipei” competition. On May 30, the winner selected by public voting, “Taipei, let me bravely look for myself(臺北,讓我更勇敢地找自己)” was announced.

Department of Information and Tourism, Taipei City Government hosted “Change ING Concert”. The concert was performed by Taipei Symphonic Winds and Taipei Symphony Orchestra Chamber Orchestra. On the site it showed video records of events happened in Taipei City of the first 100 days since Mayor Ko taken the office.

Taipei Pictorial was revamped to Small Folio with attached Bessatsu. It showed a simple and clean style. Meanwhile, it introduced Ko’s new policies in first 100 days.

Department of Information and Tourism, Taipei City Government cooperated with various departments under Taipei City Government to hosted Taipei Pictorial’s Bessatsu’s “Datong District Regeneration Plan” promotion press conference. 2018/03/14 The kickoff of Spring Happiness & Love – 2018 Taipei Azalea Festival. Organized by the Department, it is a theme-based event of Taipei’s official flower—the azalea, which allows the city to establish friendly exchange with Kurume City, Japan for the first time and form cross-industry alliances for the launch of festival-exclusive products. Participation of the hotel industry in the festival offers real business opportunities for local industries as well. The festival concludes on April 15 and captures the attention of approximately 45,500 visitors.

2018/10/10 To promote in-depth cultural sightseeing in Dadaocheng, the Department publishes Taipei Pictorial Special Edition – Walking Tours in Dadaocheng that introduces readers to Dadaocheng and its conservation, including traditional industries in this part of town and their transformation, as well as local activities. As of October 14, an exhibition which showcases a recreation of the Chinese herbal shop “He Sheng Tang” in the TV series “A Taiwanese Tale of Two Cities” is held until November 12. The exhibition takes visitors on a journey that unveils the cultural and historical uniqueness of Dadaocheng.

2020/08/29 The Department of Information and Tourism, Taipei City Government held the 2020 Taipei Valentine’s Day based on the theme “Love knows no distance.” Attendance at the main event on August 29th was approximately 80,000. Related activities that integrated the Dadaocheng commercial district were held from July 15th to September 20th.
2020/09/15 The Department of Information and Tourism, Taipei City Government hosted a conference on MICE tender bidding experiences. A total of 43 management-level industry members joined to discuss winning international conference bids and the latest technology to use for hosting online meetings.
2020/09/24 Dadaocheng Visitor Center, MRT Taipei 101/World Trade Center Visitor Information Center, and MRT Xinbeitou Station Visitor Information Center, which are operated by the Department of Information and Tourism, Taipei City Government, were named as “outstanding” in the 2020 Outstanding iCenter Management Awards, conducted by the Tourism Bureau, Ministry of Transportation and Communications. Taipei won the most awards of any jurisdiction.
2020/09/26 The Department of Information and Tourism, Taipei City Government installed the Rainbow Starting Line, Taipei’s second rainbow landscape, in front of Taipei City Hall Square. For three days starting from October 29th the city held the “Color Taipei Rainbow Light Show,” which illuminated the streets outside the West Entrance of City Hall with a light and music show.
