To inspect the progress of preparations against the Typhoon Parma, Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin presided over the briefing at the Emergency Operation Center (EOC) on October 4.
Speaking at the meeting, Hau expressed his gratitude to staff members who sacrificed their holiday of Mid-Autumn Festival for implementing typhoon prevention measures.
Taipei City Fire Department (TCFD) Commissioner Hsiung Kuang-hua pointed out that staffs from the TCFD, the Taipei City Police Department, the Department of Environmental Protection, the Department of Public Works and the Department of Civil Affairs have stationed at the Center around the clock in readiness for the typhoon.
According to the Central Weather Bureau, Typhoon Parma is still at certain distance from Taipei City, with the limited amount of rainfalls in the city; However, Hau still called on the city staffs to stay alert for the lingering storm.
Responding to the media’s concern over the flood bag distribution, Hau promised that the city government will offer residents flood bags as many as they requested. As of 3PM on October 4, a total of 1,823 flood bags were given away to the residents.
