Mayor Ko Wen-je and dignitaries kicked-off the 2022 Taipei Marathon at the starting line in front of Taipei City Hall on December 18. 

During his address, the mayor remarked that Taipei Marathon is a symbol of Taipei City and an event that makes the city proud. To be able to hold a marathon in a downtown environment while meeting the qualifications for Elite Label Race under the IAAF is a challenge by itself.

The feat can be achieved only through the combined efforts of citizens, city administration, event staff, volunteers, and sponsoring corporations, as well as all those who are taking part in the run.

The slogan of the 2022 Taipei Marathon is “Run the City – We are Possible.” According to the mayor, the marathon reminds him of taking on the challenge of cycling between two light towers in one day. The only difference between success and failure is one’s determination. He encouraged the runners to test their will power during the run.

Ko noted that the Taipei Marathon is one of the city’s landmark events. He hopes that everyone will remember that the third Sunday of December is the day of the marathon. For this year’s event, the organizers optimized the route which will take runners across a number of Taipei’s tourist attractions. He hopes that everyone can relax as they run, and that Taipei Marathon can continue year-after-year to pass on the pride of the city.
