The groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new Multipurpose Academic Building of Daan Vocational High School, managed by the New Construction Office, Public Works Department, Taipei City Government, was held on the morning of May 24, 2023. Deputy Commissioner Huang Li-Yuan of the Public Works Department, Taipei City Government presided over the ceremony, leading the relevant personnel in praying for the successful completion of the project and the safety of all the workers and machinery involved.

Mr. Hsiao Chih-Lung, the head of the Public Works Section, New Construction Office, Public Works Bureau, said that the Taipei Municipal Daan Vocational High School, established in 1940, is an excellent urban industrial school with a rich history of 80 years and located in one of the most culturally and academically vibrant areas of Taipei City. However, over the recent years, the school has faced challenges in terms of aging facilities and inadequate student activity spaces, which have greatly impacted its academic development. Particularly, some of the school buildings have reached a service life of 50 years, highlighting the urgent need for new construction. Therefore, the Taipei City Government has proposed a new construction project for the Multipurpose Academic Building of the school. The project includes the construction of a one-story underground parking lot and a five-story above-ground building, aiming to create a multi-functional complex that meets the future campus planning needs of the school.

Mr. Chu Hsuan-Tung, the head of the Zhongzheng Construction Branch, Public Works Section, New Construction Department, also said that the design and supervision work for this project is entrusted to Architect Huang Xiang Long Architects & Associates. In terms of the design concept, the aim is to incorporate the idea of “energy conservation and sustainability” into the architectural space while aligning with the educational objectives of vocational schools. These objectives include “enhancing vocational knowledge and skills”, “cultivating professional ethics”, “strengthening lifelong learning capabilities”, “promoting career development” and “nurturing competent grassroots technicians”. Furthermore, various courses will be established based on these objectives, guiding students to become exemplary individuals from Daan Vocational High School who embody the values of “integrating technology and humanities” and “possess both professional skills and good character”. The construction project was awarded to Everfull Construction Co., Ltd. on February 7, 2023, and the expected duration for completion of the project is 855 calendar days. The new Multipurpose Academic Building’s spatial planning includes innovative and spacious workshops for the Automobile Technique Department, classrooms and offices for the Architecture Technique Department and the Drafting Technique Department. The goal is to create a comfortable and safe learning environment for both teachers and students, along with a high-quality and friendly office environment. Additionally, the project includes parking spaces for public use and spacious pedestrian walkways, aiming to achieve a harmonious vision between the school and the community.
