To raise funds for the victims of Typhoon Morakot, the Blue Man Group held an extra charity performance on August 20. All income from the charity session will be donated to relief efforts in central and southern Taiwan. On behalf of Taipei City Government, Mayor Hau Lung-bin expressed his gratitude to the actors for their generosity.
The mayor praised the group for an amazing performance characterized by a unique rhythm and lighting effects. He pointed out that the show brings out “The Power of Silence” – the theme for 2009 Summer Deaflympics.
Hau remarked that the Blue Man Group took the initiative to organize the charity performance when they saw the news on the floods in Taiwan. They invited disadvantaged individuals and members of Taipei City Government who participated in rescue and relief efforts to attend the session.
The mayor also expressed his gratitude to MetLife and Delta Electronics for purchasing NT$4 million-worth of tickets. He promised that the money will be donated to relief efforts in the disaster areas.
He quoted the Deaflympics slogan “Never Give Up,” encouraging the victims of the typhoon not to give up. He also asked the public to join him in praying for those suffering from the disaster and for Taiwan.
