Indigenous Culture Festival Kicks off in November

The 2009 Taipei City Indigenous Culture Festival will take place on November 7 and 8 at the Civic Plaza. The event is one of the biggest indigenous celebrations hosted by the Indigenous People Commission (IPC).
This festivity will begin with a traditional ritual comprising the Rukai tribe members from Pintung’s Wutai Township and those from the Amis community in Taipei City. After the ritual, the audience can enjoy a concert featuring singing and dancing performances by over 20 indigenous groups at the main stage.
To show the city’s support for indigenous tribes recovering from the damages caused by Typhoon Morakot, this year’s festival will include an evening concert delivering the message of care and compassion. The concert will feature indigenous singer Hu De-fu and the Taipei City Aboriginal Youth Choir, performing popular songs such as ‘the Beautiful Island’.
The organizers will also hold a special sale and exhibition featuring indigenous peoples’ craft products and delicacies at the venue during the two-day festival.
IPC welcomes the public to come and experience the culture of Taiwan’s indigenous people.
