Tuan Tuan, Yuan Yuan Celebrate Fifth Birthday

The Giant Pandas Tuan Tuan and Yuan Yuan just celebrated their first birthday in Taiwan. The two 5 years old are adjusting well to living at the Taipei Zoo since their arrival eight months ago, keeping their weights steady at around 110 kilograms, and have bonded nicely with their keepers, said Zoo director Jason Yeh. The pair are even taking daily training program too, and they’ve already learned to go a designated place, opening their mouths wide for oral and dental exams, laying down for ultrasounds, and holding their limbs steady for pedicures, injections and have their blood drawn.

It’s already been eight months since the Giant Pandas arrived. On August 30, 2009, the Zoo made a birthday cake for Yuan Yuan’s fifth birthday especially, celebrating her very first birthday in Taiwan on the last weekend of this year’s summer vacation.
