2009 Shanghai Cultural Festival in Taipei: the Best from the Bund

Where is the place to go if you want to watch excellent Shanghai Kun Opera? Where can you get the most up-to-date information on the 2010 Shanghai World Expo? Are there any theaters in Taipei showing classic Shanghai films? You will sure find the thing you are looking for during the 2009 Shanghai Cultural Festival in Taipei!
This year, the Cross-strait Intercity Culture and Arts Exchange will feature Shanghai as the center of spotlight. The city government will be inviting performing groups from Shanghai to display their skills in Taipei, including the well known Shanghai Kun Opera Troupe and the Shanghai Youth Acrobats. From classical Kun opera to amazing stunts testing the limits of the human body, these performers from hanghai will no doubt attract the attention of local audiences.
For those who enjoy admiring the works of artists and painters, the Shanghai Cultural Festival will introduce Taipei-ers to some samples from the vast collection at the Shanghai Art Museum. The planned exhibition – Shanghai Stories – will be held at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum. Displayed pieces include works by top Shanghai School painters (Haipai) from the past 60 years, including Lin Fengmian, Guan Liang, and Liu Haisu.
At the Taipei SPOT (Taipei Film House), the organizers will be airing several movies related to Shanghai during the period of the festival. From 60s classics to the latest films, local residents will have a chance to savor the taste of Shanghai in the different eras.
Finally, there will be a photo and design exhibition at the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Champs Elysees on the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. Visitors can find out the latest about the expo, as well as looking at the fascinating designs of exhibition halls of different participating countries.
There will be 15 events and activities during the four-week-long Shanghai Cultural Expo, giving everyone an authentic experience of the famous city.
