For holiday shoppers looking for bargains in downtown Taipei, two "themed" commercial areas in Zhongzheng District will be organizing Lunar New Year holiday sales starting late January.
Camera Street Clearance Sales
The North Gate Camera Street will be holding clearance sales between January 28 and February 12. From 11 AM to 10 PM, shops will offer special deals on a selection of goods and gears, offering shoppers a great opportunity for bargain hunting.
Over the years, the Camera Street has succeeded in establishing itself as an area for photographic tools and equipments in the city. Many photo enthusiasts find the commercial area to be a great place for purchasing specialized products, from the newest models of professional DSLRs to traditional film cameras from last century to camera bags.
The renowned North Gate Camera Street of Taipei consists of 40 camera shops located near the intersection between Boai Road and Hankou Street Section 1. In addition to cameras and lenses, customers can also find film development equipments at the shops, as well as knowledgeable artisans specializing in camera repair.
Furthermore, to celebrate the opening of the renovated Futai Street Mansion, the city government is collaborating with the local business association to offer Camera Street customers free admissions to the historical site. All you have to do is to show a uniform-invoice from any participating stores at the entrance of the building (Note: offer valid only during the clearance sales).
"Made in Taiwan" Street Fair at Shoe Street
Between February 5 and 12, the Zhongzheng District Office, Yuanling Street Business Association, and Taiwan Hosiery Manufacturers’ Association will be holding a street fair on Yuanling Street.
In addition to the numerous shoe shops along the 200-meter street, Yuanling Street will be closed to traffic during this period between 8 AM and 8 PM each day. Temporary stalls and tents will line the center of the street. These makeshift storefronts will serve a variety of purposes, from handicraft booths to foot massage parlors.
The 8-day-long street fair will spotlight textile products brandishing the "Made in Taiwan" logo. According to the organizers, visitors will be able to choose from quality MIT products at the street market booths, from towels to socks to bedroom essentials.
The organizers will also set up an exhibition area for the latest trends in shoes and footwear. To promote the creativity and innovations of Taiwanese firms, several booths will display new textile materials researched and developed by local companies, including bamboo charcoal fabric, aloe fiber fabric, and far-infrared fiber.
From February 5 through 7, customers making purchases of NT$600 or more at the street fair can pick a red envelope at the information desk for a chance at winning various kinds of prizes. The organizers will also be giving away 200 pairs of "Good Fortune Socks" during the 3-day period – individuals can bring the coupons printed on the fliers to the information desk for exchange. Furthermore, a limited number of ROC flag scarf will be available at the fair (details to be announced).
