Environmental Groups Meet at Bird Watching Fair Banquet

To mark the tenth anniversary of the Taipei International Bird Watching Fair, Taipei City Government invited environmental groups from 11 countries to attend the event. Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin addressed the guests at an evening banquet at city hall on November 6.
Hau welcomed the guests to Taipei and invited them to enjoy Taiwan’s landscape – an ideal habitat for numerous avian communities. He promised that Taipei City Government will do its best to maintain an avian-friendly environment. He also invited the representatives to attend the festival next year, as well as visit the upcoming 2010 Taipei International Flora Expo.
According to the mayor, Taiwan’s ecological landscape comprises different terrains often seen in the northern hemisphere, including tropical, subtropical, temperate, and cold climate-zones.
The International Bird Watching Fair in November offers bird-watching enthusiasts and the public a great opportunity to observe migratory birds settling in for the winter season at the natural habitat in the peripherals of the city. It is also helps to promote Taipei’s efforts in conservation and environmental protection to the international community.
Representatives from the Wild Bird Club of the Philippines presented the mayor with a copy of Birdwatching in the Philippines Vol. 2 at the banquet, expressing their gratitude for the city government’s support for bird-watching activities.
