Amazing Thailand Festival 2023 Takes Place in Taipei

Mayor Chiang and dignitaries kick off the Amazing Thailand Festival 2023On April 29, Mayor Chiang Wan-an attended the opening ceremony of the Amazing Thailand Festival 2023 in Taipei City. During his address, the mayor pointed out that Thailand as one of the top destinations for Taiwanese travelers. However, for those who are unable to fly to Thailand, they can visit the Xiangti Plaza in Xinyi District to enjoy a taste of culture and cuisine from the charming Southeast Asian nation.

The mayor noted that he is very pleased to have the opportunity to attend the Amazing Thailand Festival. Due to the pandemic, the city government was forced to cancel the Thailand Cultural Festival over the past few years. Fortunately, the subsiding of COVID allows people to gather again. Many citizens express interest in the culture and traits of Thailand, and a lot of people enjoy visiting the country, whether for Thai cuisine, Thai boxing, floating markets, or its unique temple culture.

In fact, Thailand recently held the Songkran Festival on April 15. The event is a once-in-a-year festival that is equivalent to New Year’s celebration.

Chiang pointed out that the city government began a partnership with the Thailand Trade and Economic Office in 2016 to organize a number of activities related to Thai culture. These include Thai boxing demonstration matches and movie festival spotlighting Thai films. The event at Xiangti Plaza features 30 stalls offering items ranging from Thai cuisine to tourism information.

According to the mayor, the Amazing Thailand Festival has the potential to attract more people, and he suggested to Representative Tseng Te-rong that the scale of the festival should be expanded in 2024 to include additional elements such as Songkran celebrations. In addition to highlighting the 5 “F” (fashion, festival, food, fight, and film), he hopes that next year’s event will also add a sixth ‘F’ for “friendship” – especially those between Taiwan and Thailand.
