New Construction Office’s “Liugong Green Corridor Pedestrian Environment Improvement Project” Wins the 12th Taiwan Landscape Awards

The “Liugong Green Corridor Pedestrian Environment Improvement Project,” carried out by the New Construction Office of the Public Works Department, Taipei City Government, has earned the Award of Excellence on March 22, 2025, at the “12th Taiwan Landscape Awards” ceremony held at Taipei Expo Park’s Pavilion of New Fashion. This latest honor adds to the project’s growing list of accolades, including the 31th Chinese Architectural “Golden Stone Award in the Outstanding Public Infrastructure - Planning category” and the “Top Distinction in the 24th Public Construction Golden Quality Award” by the Executive Yuan. These repeated honors reaffirm the New Construction Office’s outstanding quality and its strong recognition within the industry.

 

The “Liugong Green Corridor Pedestrian Environment Improvement Project” extends previous enhancements along Sections 1 to 3 of Zhongxiao East Road and supports the revitalization of Taipei’s Eastern District. With a focus on creating a “pedestrian-oriented walking environment” and an “interconnected green corridor in the Eastern District,” the project seeks to transform the area with a long-standing negative image. The protect target Lane 135, Section 1 of Fuxing South Road, including its northern and southern roads and the central parking lot. By reconnecting the southern roads, adjusting road layouts, and reviewing existing infrastructure and accessibility, the project integrates a large plaza into the heart of the bustling Eastern District. The plaza features permeable paving and multi-level green spaces, integrating lush landscaping and artistic lighting elements to evoke the historical imagery of the Liugong Canal, resulting in a pedestrian-oriented, resilient, and aesthetically rich walking environment.

 

The project site is situated behind the prominent Far Eastern SOGO - Taipei Zhongxiao Store in the Eastern District. It connects eastward to Liugong Park and Dinghao Plaza while connecting westward to Liugong Canal Park near Section 1 of Fuxing South Road. Now open to the public, the transformed space offers a comfortable and green pedestrian environment that integrates the Eastern District’s linear green corridor. By enhancing the connection between open spaces and Eastern District’s shopping areas, the project promotes greater pedestrian flow. Beyond benefiting local residents, it also accommodates shoppers, tourists, and commuters, fostering a dynamic streetscape and making the area more walkable.
