Mayor Hau Lung-bin attended a New Year Soiree organized by the Neihu Technology Park Development Association on January 14. He praised park companies for achieving impressive earnings in 2009. He also called on the guests to support the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA), which, according to the mayor, will be advantageous to the economic development of Taipei City and Taiwan.
Guests from over 500 companies attended the event on Thursday night.
During his address, the mayor expressed his gratitude to park companies and the development association for their hard work. He noted that the number of companies in the park grew by 10 percent in 2009, accounting for 5 percent of the jobs in Taipei City. The total revenue of park companies in 2009 hit NT$2.7 trillion – more than the combined total of Hsinchu Science Park, Central Taiwan Science Park, and Southern Taiwan Science Park.
He pointed out that Taiwan will be signing the ECFA with the PRC, and the Neihu Technology Park will definitely take the lead in the coming recovery and help the city secure its position as a center of economy and trade in Asia.
Regarding possible impacts on small and medium enterprises, the mayor noted that the city will offer measures including low interest lending programs and subsidies for R&D to help these businesses undergo transformation and adaptation under the new framework.
The mayor offered a limited edition ticket set for the upcoming 2010 Taipei International Flora Expo as raffle prizes for the soiree. A worker for ABN AMBRO surnamed Chang won the ticket set and asked the mayor for his autograph.
