The 2009 Golden Wheels Award Ceremony took place at the Taipei City Hall on October 2. On behalf of Taipei City Government, Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin attended the ceremony and presented awards to 142 winners.
During his speech, Hau noted that this year’s recipients are outstanding drivers who did not have criminal record for the past 5 years and possessed clean driving records within the past 3 years. In light of the strict criteria, winners of this award are role models for others.
According to the event organizer, Department of Transportation (DOT), this year marked the 14th anniversary of the foundation of this award.
A total of 142 drivers are awarded during this year’s event, including 81 city bus drivers, 33 taxi drivers, 14 truck drivers, 6 container car drivers and 8 tour bus drivers.
Among all drivers exalted at this year’s ceremony, the CitiAir Bus Company’s driver Mr. Wei has received his forth plaque this year. Driving the special bus heading to the Neihu Technology Park, Wei was praised by female passengers for preserving priority seats to pregnant women.
