Press Conference Sparks Anticipation for Beef Noodle Galore

Taipei City Government held a press conference for the upcoming Taipei International Beef Noodle Festival on November 3 at city hall. Mayor Hau Lung-bin invited the public to come to the carnival in late November to experience the beef noodle scene.
At the press conference, the mayor examined the masterpieces by the chefs of 23 restaurants participating in this year’s competition. Mr. Liu, the winner of the traditional beef noodle category in 2008, presented the mayor with a bowl of freshly made beef noodle. He vowed to retain first place in this year’s competition, despite facing challenges by chefs from the other restaurants.
Hau pointed out that in addition to the annual sales of local department stores, residents can also visit the “annual sale” of beef noodles – the Beef Noodle Carnival at the Civic Plaza on November 21 and 22.
At the carnival, visitors can dine at the booths set up by beef noodle shops and restaurants. For an affordable price of NT$50 per bowl, the public can enjoy a wide variety of great-tasting beef noodles.
On the main stage, chefs will demonstrate their skills and compete for first place in the beef noodle competition. The audience can also watch municipality officials make beef noodles on the spot. There will also be cooking lessons teaching people how to make beef noodles at home.
Regarding the safety of imported US beef products, Hau stressed that the participants of the festival have joined the campaign of refusing the use of US beef offal, spinal cods, and ground beef. The Department of Health vowed to strengthen inspections to make sure that ingredients used by the restaurants and shops at the festival are worry-free.
