Learning Disaster Preparedness and Joining Us at SOGO! Shilin District Disaster Prevention Event

To enhance public awareness and preparedness for disasters, the Taipei City Fire Department is partnering with Far Eastern SOGO Department Store to host the “Shilin District Disaster Prevention Event” on Thursday, April 3, 2025, from 2 PM to 5 PM at Far Eastern SOGO Tianmu Store. We invite all citizens to join us and learn various disaster prevention tips.

A special performance will kick off the event by the Dragon Beauties, the cheerleading team of the Chinese Professional Baseball League’s Wei Chuan Dragons. The fair will feature many fun and educational interactive booths, including "Home Life-Saving Tools (Smoke Detector Promotion)," "Home Fire Safety," "Gas Stove and Fire Safety," "Smoke Maze," "CPR-First Aid Training," and "Pit Rescue Experience," allowing both adults and children to learn about disaster prevention and the importance of self-rescue and mutual aid through hands-on experiences. Additionally, there will be “Firefighting Experience Vehicle” and “Earthquake Experience Vehicle” on-site, where visitors can practice using fire extinguishers and experience the tremors of an earthquake to enhance their disaster response skills.

Department stores are an essential part of daily life for the public, attracting crowds for shopping and leisure, whether on weekdays or weekends. Therefore, the Fire Department has teamed up with department stores to promote disaster prevention education. Through fun activities, the goal is to make disaster prevention knowledge simple and enjoyable, while building disaster prevention awareness among both businesses and the community, creating a solid foundation for community resilience.

With the Tomb Sweeping Festival approaching, many people are preparing to visit cemeteries to pay respects to their ancestors. To prevent fires in cemetery areas, the Fire Department urges citizens to avoid using open flames and to follow these five safety tips:

1.Do not burn weeds: Use tools to manually clear the cemetery, and place weeds in garbage bags to avoid burning them and causing a fire.

2.Do not burn joss paper: Choose alternatives such as "offering merits instead of money" or "offering rice instead of money".

3.Do not set off fireworks: It is recommended to play electronic firecracker sounds on a smartphone, which is both safe and convenient.

4.Do not throw cigarette butts: Ensure cigarettes are properly extinguished and discarded safely to prevent sparks from igniting the weeds.

5.Do not Leave Your Trash: After tomb sweeping, take your trash with you to keep the cemetery clean and reduce the accumulation of combustible materials.

Taipei City has won the top spot in the "2024 County and City Overall and Sustainable Competitiveness Survey" by Global Views Monthly for the fourth consecutive time, and ranked first among the six metropolitan cities in "Public Safety and Firefighting," reflecting outstanding achievements in disaster prevention education. The Fire Department warmly invites citizens to join us for a fun and educational experience at the event, where families can explore and enjoy interactive activities while learning essential disaster prevention knowledge to help safeguard their homes and loved ones.
