Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin inspected the progress of ongoing renovations for the Xinsheng Overpass on September 17. He noted that the overpass would have to clear safety inspections and undergo review by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications before reopening.
If there are no problems, he expects the Xinsheng Overpass to reopen to the public in October at the earliest.
Regarding the progress of the project, the mayor pointed out that repair works for the section between Jinan Road and Minzu E. Road have been completed in August. According to Hau, the crew are currently working on ramp constructions, connecting the Xinsheng Overpass to Songjiang Bridge.
Public Works Department (PWB) Commissioner Chen Jin-yuan remarked that the New Constructions Office spent six months tearing down one bridge and building two in its place. He praised the workers for their dedication and expects all construction works to be completed by the end of September.
The media reported safety concerns over the quality of the adhesive resin used. However, PWB stressed that the material in question – Sikadure Anchor Fix-4 – have passed the initial assessment conducted by the Taipei Structural Engineering Association.
