Statue of Renowned Songwriter Unveiled at Dadaocheng Park

The city government held a press conference to inaugurate a bronze statue of Taiwanese songwriter Lee Lin-chiu at Dadaocheng Park on December 19. The mayor described Lee as one of the most important “cultural asset” of Taipei City.
The new statue commemorates the one-hundred-year anniversary of the songwriter’s birth. Lee’s work include all-time favorites including Facing the Spring Wind, Mending the Net, Colorful Seasons, and more; these songs remain popular even today.
According to the mayor, culturally advanced nations place a heavy emphasis on cultural resources and personalities. Recalling past trips to European cities such as Vienna and Bonne, Hau remarked that the majority of statues he saw were not those of heroes and kings; rather, they are mostly cultural figures like Mozart and Beethoven.
Datong District is one of the oldest districts in the city. Lee wrote and composed his songs when he resided in the neighborhood. The mayor hopes that the public can visit the district to learn more about the great songwriter and the history of Taipei City.
Dignitaries attending the event include city councilors Lee Wen-ying, Huang Hsiang-chun, and Chen Yu-mei.
