Mayor Promotes Flora Expo at Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony
Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin attended Far Eastern Group’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony on December 2. He joined Chairman Douglas Hsu in turning on the lights of the Christmas tree at the event.
When asked about his Christmas wish, the mayor replied that he hopes the residents of the city can enjoy a peaceful year in 2009, followed by a joyous year in 2010.
He noted that the year has been a successful year for Taipei City, with the Summer Deaflympics taking place between September 5 and 15. The international competition attracted the attention of the global community, spotlighting both the city and the island.
Hau also expressed his well wishes to the Far Eastern Group on its Sixtieth anniversary. He attributed the group’s success to hard work and efficient management, as well as their dedication to public welfare.
The Far Eastern Group will be sponsoring and managing the Pavilion of New Fashion, one of the expo venues located inside the Yuanshan Park. According to the mayor, the design of the building will bring out the theme ‘recycling’. The hall will feature a gigantic PET crystal wall, made from millions of recycled PET bottles. The design will also will also include a number of solar panels on the roof of the building, helping to reduce energy consumption.
The mayor pointed out that the emphasis of the 2009 Summer Deaflympics in Taipei is “Power in Me”; the theme for the 2010 Taipei International Flora Expo, on the other hand, will be “Power of Beauty.”
