Taiwan Design Center to Set up Shop at Songshan Cultural Park

Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin appeared at the contract signing ceremony between the Taiwan Design Center and Taipei City Government on the establishment of the Taiwan Design Hall at the Songshan Tobacco Plant Cultural Park on August 26.

Dignitaries attending the meeting included the Vice Minister of Economic Affairs Huang Chung-chio and Taiwan Design Center President Wang Chih-kang.

The mayor noted that the performance of local contestants in major international competitions in the fields of interior design and industrial design is relatively well known. He believes that this factor, combined with the relentless effort of the people at the Industrial Development Bureau, convinced the members of the International Design Alliance (IDA) to hold their meeting at Taipei in 2011.

Hau went on saying that the decision to establish the Taiwan Design Hall at the Songshan Tobacco Plant Cultural Park is important for attracting top design talents to Taiwan, initiating a clustering effect for Taipei in this field.

According to the mayor, the city prides itself for being a center of creativity for the Chinese World. With the upcoming Summer Deaflympics in two weeks and the Taipei International Gardening and Horticulture Exhibition in 2010, he is confident that the experience from these international events will help the City make the 2011 IDA Congress a great success.
