Taipei City showing its digital and green transformation capacity in the 10th anniversary of the Smart City Summit and Expo

The 2023 Smart City Summit & Expo (SCSE) will be held in Taipei from March 28 to 31. Entering its 10th year, the Smart City Summit and Expo, the number of valued guests and startup teams coming to Taiwan will be at a record high. Since 2016, Taipei City and the Taipei Computer Association have jointly organized the event to promote the development of the domestic smart city industry, aiming to create the world’s largest smart city interaction platform through industry-government collaboration. The exhibition maintains the format of Taipei-Kaohsiung double home venue and also adds the “2050 Net Zero City Expo” in Taipei to show that Taipei is one of the international benchmark cities in terms of digital and green transformation.

The smart city exhibition is one of the larger international exhibitions held in Taiwan after the border restriction was lifted in the post-pandemic period, and number of foreign visitors for the event will hit a new high. As the host of the event, Taipei City will organize the “Smart City Mayors’ Summit,” “CTalk Forum” and the “Go Smart Day,” and establish the “Taipei Pavilion,” which are expected to welcome 364 heads or representatives of cities from 42 countries around the world and serve as the most important experience sharing platform for the development of smart cities in the world.

The Taipei Pavilion, featuring 8 exhibition areas focusing on the vision of “Livable and Sustainable,” will showcase 35 innovative applications based on technology used in smart cities. The White Paper on Net Zero Actions introduced by the City Government of Taipei will at the same time demonstrate the use of innovative technology applications aiming to achieve the goal of reducing carbon emissions by 40% by 2030, which promotes Taipei to move toward becoming a smart energy city.

The “Smart City Mayors’ Summit” held by Taipei City has been the most important highlight event of the smart city exhibitions over the years. There will be two roundtable meetings for city chiefs focusing on “digital transformation” on March 28. During the exhibition, there will be CTalk Forum focusing on two professional field, “smart taxation” and “humanity-oriented transportation.” Valued guests, city chiefs, central government officials and international organizations from the six special municipalities in Taiwan, the US, Marshall Islands, Lithuania, Finland, Romania, Malaysia, the Philippines, New Zealand, Singapore and other countries have all been invited to the events.

Taipei has actively promoted the GO SMART (Global Organization of Smart Cities) organization, which is committed to creating a global smart city resources and information exchange platform to bring together smart city-related needs and solutions. There are now more than 220 member cities and countries. The GO SMART Day will be held on March 29 and the event is divided into the afternoon “General Assembly” session, which talks about trends and opportunities in the field of smart cities and the evening “GO SMART Award 2023 Ceremony” session to facilitate more exchanges of smart city experience.

The event welcoming foreign guests after lifting the border restriction is expected to continue the efforts connecting with the world using the physical-virtual smart city implementation to generate more global visibility of Taipei City.
