Convenient Stores Pledge Support for US Beef Product Boycott

Following the footsteps of local restaurants, shops, and big box retailers, representatives of three major convenient stores chains announced their intention to join the city-backed alliance against US beef offal, spinal cords, and ground beef.
The alliance encourages member stores and restaurants to adopt self-management measures to safeguard the health of consumers.
The convenient stores – 7-Eleven, Hi-Life, and Family Mart – pledged to support the city’s boycott of the aforementioned products by not offering the merchandise in stores and not using these ingredients for food products.
Mayor Hau Lung-bin visited the Family Mart City Hall branch store and 7-Eleven Eslite branch store on December 15 to put up the label sticker in person; the label stickers identify these stores as members of the league.
Since its establishment, the alliance has received over 6,000 membership applications – including 1,500 big box retailers and 1,500 outlets. According to the mayor, the city’s Department of Health has inspected over the products of over 3,400 stores; so far, none of the examined products includes any beef offal, spinal cords, or ground beef from the US.
Hau stressed that all the membership label stickers carry a different serial number and employs laser-engraving technology to prevent counterfeit attempts, allowing consumers to identify member shops and restaurants with ease.
