2022 Animal Protection Month Part 2: Education Week Activity Kicks-off Sep. 12

Education Week activities for Animal Protection MonthThe Animal Protection Office (APO) is holding a one-week-long online education program between September 12 and 18. In addition to a number of courses on pet-related knowledge, there is also a special conservation class spotlighting macaques taking place September 17.

The public is welcome to attend any of the classes, which start at 7:30 PM Monday night. The program can be accessed via the Chinese Facebook fan page of the Animal Protection Month (Link).

Furthermore, class participants have a chance of securing raffle opportunities by taking a simple online test after their class. A total of 10 lucky winners will be chosen each day to receive a 7-Eleven gift voucher worth NT$100.

To provide the public with additional channels to obtain pet-related knowledge, the APO joined hands with Taipei e-Campus, Dogs and Cats School, and Taiwan Nature Trail Society to organize the week-long course, which comprises six classes on topics spanning how to take care of dogs and cats to pet training, as well as an outdoor lesson about conservation of macaques. Through diagrams and photos, even participants who have never seen macaques can learn about how to deal and interact with these monkeys when encountering them in the wilds.

The agency reminds the public to learn about pet behaviors and care-giving methods before deciding to keep a pet, and continue to acquire new knowledge afterwards to optimize interactions between pet and owner. As for wild animals, individuals should comply with the principle of avoiding “feeding, interrupting, and direct contact.”
