Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin and his wife arrived at Neihu for a tour of the Taipei Flower Market on February 8. They purchased flowers for home decorations for the upcoming holidays and shook hands with storeowners along the way.
The mayor picked up an array of floral products, including salix argyracea, chrysanthemum, and lily. He also bought a bouquet of roses, presented them to his wife to commemorate the upcoming Saint Valentine’s Day. This year, the first day of Lunar New Year coincides with this important day for lovers.
Speaking before the reporters, Hau announced that special market hours will start on February 9. During this period, the Taipei Flower Market will operate around-the-clock, catering to busy shoppers. The Lunar New Year flower market hours will last until 1 PM on Saturday, February 13.
Due to stable weather conditions, the supply of flowers remains plentiful. Market management reported that in the past five days, the market received an average of 230,000 flower bunches from suppliers every day. Compared to the same period in 2009, the supply of flowers grew by 20 percent while prices dropped by 30 percent.
The mayor invited the public to come to the flower market and purchase beautiful, fair-priced floral products for both their loved ones and their homes. In addition to making their households beautiful and fresh, additional business means that the merchants will be able to enjoy a prosperous Year of the Tiger.
