City Offers Free LNY Meals to Senior Citizens

To offer senior citizens who live alone a heartwarming Lunar New Year, the city government has collaborated with charity organizations to sponsor a special meal delivery service for these individuals before Lunar New Year. The press announcement took place at city hall on February 11. Mayor Lung-bin and city officials took part in the packing of meal boxes at the press event. He also doubled as the one-day deliveryman, delivering the meal to the home of retired actor Ke Hsiang-Ting. The home of Ke and his family is located inside a local military dependents' village in Taipei. However, the settlement will be dismantled in the near future, making way for the construction of flora expo venues. According to Ke’s family, the city government has offered to move them to Wanhua District. Hau remarked that house prices in Wanhua District have risen recently, thanks to the movie Monga. The mayor asked them to report any problems if they encounter any during or after relocation. The city government has been organizing door-to-door New Year’s dinner delivery for senior residents who lived by themselves for the past eight years. With the help of Taipei City Charity Funds Association, the initiative raised NT$780,000 in funds. The fund will provide free meals for 300 individuals. The course for this year’s New Year’s Eve dinner comprises entrees including chicken soup, pork chops, eel rice cake, and more. Volunteer workers will deliver the meals to the elders.
