New Director Takes Helm at TSO
Professor Sung Wei-te from the Department of Music at National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) has taken over as director of the Taipei Symphony Orchestra (TSO).
The swear-in ceremony of the new director took place on April 1. Deputy Mayor Tsai Ping-kun presided over the event.
A renowned Taiwanese clarinetist, Sung is a graduate of Taipei National University of the Arts and worked for the TSO in 1989. Having studied abroad in France between 1990 and 1994, Sung won a number of awards during this period, including a gold medal from FRESNES Conservatory’s competition and first place at the Leopold-Bellan Music Competition’s Clarinet Division.
Sung also invested much of his career into music education. He has been teaching at the Department of Music of NTNU since 1998 and also served as adjunct professor at the Taipei National University of the Arts.
The new director looks forward to leading TSO in becoming the most beautiful voice of Taipei City, allowing more citizens of Taipei – as well as the people of Taiwan, Asia, and the world – to enjoy the music of TSO.
During his address, Deputy Mayor Tsai expressed his hope that under the leadership of Director Sung, Taipei City will continue promote its most beautiful and intricate culture as the leader of Taiwan’s art and music sectors.
