Mayor Attends Sports Meet at Local Elementary School
To urge local schools to strengthen sports education and to encourage young students to develop an interest in exercising, Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin attended two sports meets held by the local primary schools on December 5.
The mayor arrived at Mingchuan Elementary School for the first event, followed by a stopover at Wanfang Elementary School in Wenshan District.
At Mingchuan Elementary School, Hau expressed his gratitude to the student parents and faculty members for helping with reconstruction of schools hit by Typhoon Morakot. He also thanked them for assisting students from the disaster areas, allowing these children to continue their studies. Their deeds, according to the mayor, are worthy of praise and serve as positive models for future generations.
Later, Hau met with a kindergartener surnamed Chen at Wenfang Elementary School. A patient suffering from OI disease (Osteogenesis Impefecta), Chen’s determination and optimistic personality impressed the mayor. He presented the young child with a small gift and encouraged Chen to face the future with the same optimistic attitude.
Wenfang Elementary School was one of the big winners at the Taipei City South District Sports Meet (A group) last week, claiming first place in three categories. Hau praised the athletes for their outstanding performance, hoping that they will continue to work on sharpening their talents and physical fitness.
