Deputy Mayor Attends Union’s New Years Greeting Session
Deputy Mayor Lee Yong-ping attended the Lunar New Year Greeting Session organized by the Taipei General Labor Union on February 24 in the absence of the mayor. Mayor Hau Lung-bin is in Seoul for the 2010 World Design Cities Summit.
According to Lee, the city government adopted a number of programs and policies to tackle unemployment problems caused by the global economic downturn last year. The city government has taken a proactive approach, investing over NT$10 million from the second reserve funds to help jobseekers.
The city government hopes to work more closely with the working class to find a satisfactory solution to curb rising unemployment.
Lee pointed out that recent figures indicate that the economy is showing signs of recovery. She expects positive changes in the labor market in 2010, but it remains vital for the city government to continue to work closely with labor groups.
She also took the opportunity to express her gratitude to the union members for looking after the interest of the 380,000 laborers working in Taipei.
