Winners of 2009 Labor Film Award Recognized at Ceremony
The winners of the 2009 Labor Film Award received the trophies from Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin at the award ceremony on October 15. Entering its third year, the Labor Film Award is organized by the Department of Labor to promote the proletariat culture and to raise awareness on labor-related issues.
The mayor pointed out that the Labor Film Award gets better every year. In fact, the vast labor population is one of the greatest contributors to Taipei’s growth and development. The purpose of the Labor Film Award is to let the public learn more about the daily life and the value of workers.
He said he would not only like to thank the participants for their role in helping to improve the city, but would also like to encourage them to capture scenes of everyday life and record the wonderful sights for future generations.
Hsiao Chu-chen, a well-known documentary director and a member of the award’s jury, stressed that she was amazed by the quality of the submitted works. She revealed that there were heated debates among jury members, because many of the films were beyond the jury’s expectations.
The top winners of this year’s award explored the life of an electrical repairman, an musician, a postman, and a dock worker. The winning pieces will be screened on ETtoday Financial Channel (channel 57) starting 3 PM on October 17. Their works are also available at the archives of Taipei Public Library, YouTube, and Taiwan Audio Video Interactive Service (http://tavis.tw) .
