Second King of Chefs Contest Kicks Off at Taipei Show
Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin attended the opening ceremony for the Second “King of Chefs” Contest and the 2009 International Master Chefs Invitational Tournament at the Taipei Show Hall 2 on October 9.
Wearing a chef’s outfit, the mayor joined the dignitaries in sounding the drum together to kick off the culinary competitions. Officials attending the ceremony include Department of Labor Commissioner Su Yin-kuei, President Lin Chin-cheng of the Taipei Restaurant and Beverage Workers Union (TRBWU), Taipei City Council Speaker Wu Bi-chu, Legislator Chiang Nai-Shin, and Legislator Ting Shou-chung.
Mayor Hau indicated that fine food is one of the main attractions of Taipei City. Many tourists claim that Taipei’s delicacies are among the best in Chinese communities around the world. In addition to its outstanding Chinese cuisine, the city also boasts a wide range of ethnic dishes from many countries.
The mayor remarked that during an earlier trip to attend the Mayors Congress in Brisbane, his Australian counterpart told him that the best Italian food could be found in Taipei. He hopes that Taipei City will one day realize the ambition of becoming a culinary capital of the world.
During the period of the competitions (between Oct. 9 and Oct 12), the award winners from various fields will perform before the audience, demonstrating their skills in the field of balloon artistry, noodle-making, and ice sculpture.
