Mayor Hau Lung-bin commemorates his third year in office with a press conference on December 25. He briefed the media on the latest about the Maokong Gondola and the MRT Wenshan-Neihu Line and shared with them his outlook for the coming year.
The mayor voiced his support for the central government’s intention on signing the economic cooperation framework agreement (ECFA) with the PRC. He added that the city government will invite professor Chu Yun-peng, Lee Tung-hao, and Huang Teh-fu to form an advisory group to promote ECFA.
Hau also announced that the 2010 Taipei International Flora Exposition will open in November next year. The “Olympic Games” of the horticulture industry is expected to attract eight million visitors, including 300,000 international tourists. The city has also invited renowned director Ho Shiao-shian to produce a 3D-panorama movie for the expo.
On the topic of the MRT Wenshan-Neihu Line, the mayor apologized many times for the instability of the system since the opening of the line on July 4. Following adjustments to the network system in mid-August, the stability of the line has seen significant improvements. He also reported that a new Ethernet network will be added to the operation system in the coming year, making the MRT Wenshan-Neihu Line a world-class rapid transit line.
Regarding the relocation of the T16 support pillar, the mayor remarked that the construction crew is in the process of dismantling work of the cable line and tower. He stressed that there is no ‘time schedule’ for the reopening of the Maokong Gondola – the city government must consider the issues of safety, landscaping, and passenger service before setting a date.
