Daan Sports Center Opens to the Public
Taipei City’s eleventh sports center – the Daan District Sports Center – is now open to the public following a ceremony on April 10. Over thousands of people, consisting of Daan District residents and city officials, attended the event.
In his remarks, Mayor Hau Lung-bin announced that the last of the twelve district sports centers – the Wenshan District Sports Center – will be inaugurated by the end of this year.
This will mark the realization of the vision of “One Sports Center for One Administrative District”, bringing Taipei closer to becoming a “Healthy and Energetic City”.
Hau noted that the policy, which was established under former mayor Ma Ying-jeou in 2003, took many years to implement. The total number of individuals utilizing the ten existing city sports centers has reached the 25-million mark, with an average of 720,000 users per month.
The mayor said he is very pleased to see Daan Sports Center open for business. He also thanked the management team from China Youth Corps for providing high quality services. He encouraged everyone to develop the habit of exercising on a regular basis and utilize these facilities to their fullest.
During the opening ceremony, the event organizer invited renowned billiard athlete Liu Shin-mei to serve as the mayor’s one-day coach, teaching him billiard tricks.
