Datong Sports Center Opens On December 12

Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin inaugurated the Datong Sports Center during a roller hockey contest at the municipal sports facility on December 12.
The newly-opened venue contained a heated swimming pool, a basketball court and a fitness center. In addition, it also has a rollerblading field – the only roller skating court in the national that conforms to the international standard. Apart from that, it also boasted an international conference hall, which made it the only branch among city sports centers to comprise such facility.
During his address, Hau indicated that since the first city sports center opened its door to the public, the sports centers across the city have altogether attracted over 25million people. The number of visitors per mouth has increased from 620,000 people in 2008 to 720,000 people in 2009. The noticeable rise in the amount of users implied these venues are much needed and welcome by the residents.
Following the opening of the Datong Sports Center, the Daan Sports Center is slated to be unveiled on February, 2010; the construction of the Wenshan Sports Center will be completed on April, 2010 and it will open to the residents on September, 2010. By then each district in the city will have a city sponsored sports center.
