Mayor delivering his speech at a churchWith the continued spread of COVID-19 around the world, people need love, compassion, and warmth to help them through these troubled times. The city government has joined hands with the Christian Cultural Exchange Association and various Christian and Catholic organizations in Taipei to organize the 2020 Taipei Heaven’s Home Carnival. Hopefully, the event will bring people closer together through love and together overcome the challenging year, as well as welcoming the new year with hope and confidence.
As a part of the event, the Christmas caroling parade began at 3:30 PM. After arriving at Zhongshan Hall around 5 PM, Mayor Ko Wen-je and church leaders together lit the main Christmas Tree and the lighting decoration at the venue. The parade set off from Zhongshan Hall and headed to Beimen, where the mayor led the members of the group in a prayer session for the city.
The procession continued past major landmarks in the downtown area, including Taipei Railway Station, Legislative Yuan, Control Yuan, Huashan Cultural Park, National Taipei University of Business, and National Taipei University of Technology. The group arrived at the Taipei Wesley Methodist Church at 6 PM.
At the church, Ko officially kicked-off the 2020 Taipei Heaven’s Home Carnival. He later participated in the candle-lighting ceremony and prayer sessions at several churches in Taipei, including the Taipei Seventh-day Adventist Church, the Holy Family Catholic Church, and Truth Lutheran Church.
During his address, the mayor pointed out that Taipei City Government collaborated with the association to connect and link the Christmas trees and holiday decorations at various churches across Zhongzheng, Wanhua, and Daan districts to strengthen the holiday atmosphere and to illuminate the streets of West District with Christmas lights. The Taipei Broadcasting Station will also organize a concert at Zhongshan Hall next Saturday, featuring well-known singers and celebrities. He invited the public to come and enjoy the concert.
