Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin arrived at Morrison Academy Bethany Campus for the 2010 Taiwan International Homeschool Fair on February 7. The mayor said he is very impressed with the teaching and educational materials designed for students studying on their own.
Hau believes that parents of homeschool kids take their children’s education seriously and are willing to invest a great amount of time on the process. He noted that the materials designed for this purpose in mind could ensure the students effective learning in a home environment.
The mayor stressed that in the future, home-educated pupils will be eligible for student status at selected schools in Taipei City. He also invited the students to utilize school resources for subjects such as physical education and music.
Homeschool families from across the island displayed their works at the fair. The participants talked about learning results and shared the knowhow on how to acquire American high school diplomas through attending both online and actual classes, as well as the details on how to apply for admission to colleges and universities in different countries.
Accompanied by Morrison Academy Principal Uwe Maurer and Chen I-kuang of Taiwan Homeschool Advocate, the mayor visited the booths organized by homeschool families from both Taiwan and abroad, including Poland, United Kingdom, United States, and Russia. The organizers invited them to share their homeschool experiences with visitors.
