The city government announced the details of the Lantern Festival showcase during a press conference at the Mayor's Residence Arts Salon on February 23. Deputy Mayor Lee Yong-ping remarked that the upcoming event will feature innovative combinations of music, art, and flowers. The event highlights numerous traditional and exotic lanterns – as well as the highly-anticipated “virtual lantern”. Two giant tiger mascots will sit above the main entrance of city hall during the period of the festival. After sunset, shifting images creating a “virtual lantern” will decorate the walls of city hall, using it as a screen to stage extravagant works of light every 30 minutes between 7PM and 11PM. In addition to the feast of music, light, and Tai Ke music, images of Bopiliao will promote the renovated historical site to spectators. The “virtual lantern” is the collaboration between seasoned artist Lee Ming-dao and PANI, a projection service company from Austria. The Taipei Lantern Festival will run from February 26 through March 7, packing an intensive feast of visual and audio effects in the ten-day period. Don’t miss this exciting event!
