Mayor Pays Tribute to Nurses

Mayor Hau Lung-bin attended a gala marking the International Nurse Day on May 12. During the event, Hau commended 126 attending nurses for their significant contributions and expressed his deepest gratitude to them with a bow.
Citing his own experience when hospitalized for an operation, the mayor stressed that nurses are the ones who spend more time taking care of patients than doctors. They not only attend to the needs of patients, but importantly, they provide mental comfort for those suffering from illness or pain.
Concerns have been raised recently over the unfair treatment towards nurses who overwork but get underpaid. In light of this, the mayor noted that the Central Government has decided to allocate NT$2 billion this year for improving the working environment of nursing staff.
According to Hau, the City Government will do its part starting with Taipei City Hospital and its branches. Elaborating on this plan, he noted that authorities concerned will conduct an overall review on the city’s existing labor contracts concerning nursing practices.
Hau pledged to protect the rights of all hard-working nurses across the capital and urged them to report any irregularities found in their salary, working hours, benefits, or others.
