Mayor Inks Nangang Bus Station BOT Agreement

Mayor Ko at the signing ceremony for Nangang Bus Station BOT.Mayor Ko Wen-je attended the BOT contract signing ceremony for the Nangang Bus Station on December 14.

During his address, Ko expressed his gratitude to the National Property Administration and Taiwan Railway Administration for working with city hall and providing the land for the BOT project. He also thanked Shin Kong Life Insurance Company for investing funds into the project and taking up the operation responsibility of the future facility. The project holds much potentials and promises to become a successful case under the East District Gateway Project.

The mayor pointed out that the East District Gateway Project – which places Nangang Railway Station at its core – is a major emphasis for his second term. The regional development plan spans important facilities such as Nangang Software Park, Taipei Pop Music Center, National Biotechnology Research Park, and Nangang Bottle Cap Factory. This area shows promising potential for development.

Regarding startups, the mayor explained that with the recent opening of the Nangang Bottle Cap Factory Cultural and Creative Park, it will still take some time before related resources are in place. The innovation center for blockchain technology is slated to open soon, while construction of other facilities spanning research center to concert hall are underway. He also cited the Nangang Depot Public Housing as a complex constructed with the concept of circular economy in mind – the materials used can be recycled and reutilized when renovation or demolishment is required after five to seven decades.

When talking about the private sector partners, the mayor praised Shin Kong Insurance company for successful collaboration with city hall in the Nangang Software Park and Xinyi A12 projects. A major player in the field of intercity transportation, Kuo-kuang Bus is a trustworthy partner given its track record in managing Taipei Railway Bus Station and Nangang Bus Station’s West Station. Shin Kong Insurance is expected to invest NT$4 billion into the project while city hall will provide administrative assistance. Hopefully, the bus station will open its doors to the public in 2025.
