City Cup Taekwondo Invitational Tournament Kicks-off at Taipei Stadium

The 2022 Taipei City Cup Taekwondo Invitational Tournament kicks off at Taipei StadiumThe young athletes taking part in the 2022 Taipei City Cup Taekwondo Invitational Tournament gathered at the Taipei Stadium for the opening ceremony on December 11. 

 

A collaboration between the Department of Sports (SPD) and the Taipei City Taekwondo Association, this year’s tournament allows the athletes to compete in-person after two years of suspension due to the pandemic. A total of 137 athletes from 7 municipalities across Taiwan will take part in the games. 

 

During his remarks at the opening ceremony, Deputy Commissioner of Sports Liu Ning-tien voiced his support for the participating athletes and stressed that the city government seeks to provide local athletes with more spotlight and experience through tournaments and competitions. He hopes that the participants will meet the challenges and push themselves to achieve further breakthrough. 

 

The tournament comprises both sparring and forms (poomsae) divisions. Athletes taking part in the sparring category include the team from Huajiang Senior High School led by coach Chen Yu-shen, who served as the coach for the national team at the 2022 Asian Junior Taekwondo Championship in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. There are also top teams from schools including national Changhua University of Education and Taichung Municipal Chung Gang Senior High School.
