Aaron Kwok, celebrity singer from Hong Kong and spokesperson for the 2009 Summer Deaflympics, announced the donation of 2,500 concert tickets to the city government during an autograph session at Ximending on July 18.
Mayor Hau Lung-bin accepted the tickets on behalf of Taipei City Government. He expressed his gratitude to Kwok for accepting the position as the international spokesperson for the 2009 Summer Deaflympics in Taipei. He noted that the tickets will allow disadvantaged individuals to witness the star’s outstanding performance, and reminded the public to show their support for the upcoming international sports event.
Kwok is in Taipei to promote both the Deaflympics and his concert in Taipei. Hau noted that in addition to serving as the spokesperson, the singer has also written a theme song for the closing ceremony.
The mayor stressed that there will be over 4,000 participants from 80-plus countries around the world attending the 2009 Summer Deaflympics. He encouraged residents to help these hearing-impaired athletes at crossways and reminded motorists to be on the lookout at road intersections during the period of the event.
He hoped that the public will show their welcome and warmth to the visiting athletes, letting them know that Taipei is a friendly city.
