The Department of Social Welfare has launched relevant care and relief mechanisms in response to the April 3 earthquake, which took the lives of Taipei residents or left them homeless due to severe house damage. In addition to paying NT$50,000 in cash assistance for each victim, individuals in disaster-stricken areas receive help in applying for disaster relief from the Hualien County Government, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and the Taiwan Foundation for Disaster Relief. Additionally, as the earthquake damaged the beam-columns of an entire building located in Nanjichang, Zhongzheng District, resulting in the emergency evacuation of 63 residents, the Department of Social Welfare stationed personnel at the forward command post to provide services and mobilized volunteers from non-governmental organizations to offer on-site assistance.
