TPEDOIT Redoubles Effort to Attract MICE Opportunities

Delegates attending an international event in TaipeiWith the subsiding of the pandemic, Taiwan lifted border restrictions in October 2022, which helped the MICE (Meeting, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) industry recover as exhibitions and international travels began to pick up once again.

According to statistics from the Department of Information and Tourism (TPEDOIT), there will be over 160 MICE events taking place in Taipei City in 2023. This indicate a healthy MICE environment in Taipei, with local businesses holding high expectations for business opportunities arriving with roughly 30,000 business travelers this year.

TPEDOIT cited several important international events slated for the second half of the year, including: The World News Media Congress in late June; the SIGIR 2023 in July; the 2023 IDA Annual Conference Global Summit in August; the 26th International Symposium on Glycoconjugates in August; the Semicon Taiwan 2023 in September; the FAPA 2023 in October; the ART TAIPEI 2023 in October, and the 2023 Healthcare Expo Taiwan in November.

The agency pointed out that Taipei City possess several advantages which attract MICE organizers, such as low crime rate, natural landscape, amazing gourmet food, and rich culture. The city has also been listed by New York Times as one of the 52 Places to Go in 2023. Taipei is also a leader in areas such as infotech and 5G networks, which creates an ideal and convenient environment for conferences integrating online and physical aspects, exhibitions featuring multimedia interactions, and events tapping upon local human and cultural landscapes.

According to TPEDOIT, it accepts applications for international MICE event sponsorships twice a year. The results for Round 2 of MICE sponsorship applications in 2023 have been published on the Chinese website of the agency. For those who are interested in holding such events in the future, more information on MICE sponsorship application can be found at the website here: (https://service.gov.taipei/).
