Commemorating World Water Day 2010 with Raffle Contest
To celebrate World Water Day on March 22, Mayor Hau Lung-bin announced that Taipei City Government will be holding a special raffle contest to reward residents who play active roles in reducing their household water consumption during the next few months. The organizer is offering prizes totaling NT$1 million!
Households are eligible to enter the raffles if their water bills for the months May through October in 2010 show at least a 10-percent cutback in water consumption compared to the same period in 2009.
To join the contest, residents can register at the activity website (http://www.twd.gov.tw) between March 22 and April 30. There will be 169 prizes available, with a top prize of NT$100,000 in cash!
Mayor Hau noted that the City encourages residents to save water through approaches such as replacing water pipes, reducing leakage issues, promoting water conservation, and encouraging the installation of water-saving tap, Taipei City succeeded in cutting back water consumption by 110 million tons in 2009 – roughly one-fourth of the water inside Feitsui Reservoir.
Through the combined effort of the Department of Environmental Protection, the Public Works Department, and the Sewerage Systems Office, the City will achieve 100-percent household sewer connection rate by the end of March, and the water quality of Tamsui River is the best ever in three decades.
