Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin attended the opening ceremony of the 2010 Taipei Water Festival at Gongguan Riverside Plaza on July 3. During the ceremony, He took the opportunity to introduce the new attraction of Taipei Water Park – “Water Screen” – to the visitors.
A band consisting of mentally challenged children from Gongguan Elementary School kicked off the event with an outdoor music performance. Guests including Mayor Hau Lung-bin, Deputy Mayor Lin Chien-yuan, and Taipei Water Department Commissioner Kuo Jui-hua joined the band members on stage and played maracas.
Other programs on the opening night include the “water screen show” at the fountain, the “light show” at Yungfu Bridge, and the fireworks above Tamsui River.
Speaking to the participants, Hau reiterated that renovating the riverside area into a place available for leisure activities has always bee one of the major objectives of his administration. With the improvement of water quality, the elimination of odor, and the gradual increase in the number of cyclists, Hau announced that the government intends to arrange a wild range of performances at the venue on holidays and other special occasions, ensuring residents a new place to go during their free time. This measure will also enhance the artistic atmosphere for the city.
In addition to promoting the festival, the mayor also announced that the Taipei Water Department is organizing a raffle for households achieving ten percent cutback in monthly water consumption, rewarding residents for getting involved in the water saving campaign.
