Mayor Attends ECCT Luncheon

Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin attended the luncheon and roundtable session organized by the European Chamber of Commerce Taipei (ECCT) on March 3. He congratulated the new ECCT Chairman Nicolas Winsor upon his election and asked the members for their support of city policies in 2010. At the luncheon, the mayor expressed his gratitude to the members of ECCT for their support for the 2009 Summer Deaflympics in Taipei, helping to make the major sports event a success for the city. The mayor briefed ECCT members on three major policies/events of the City, including the 2010 Taipei International Flora Expo, Taipei Beautiful Project, and Smooth Road Project. The members also offered their opinions about the city’s bike lanes and possibilities of sustainable tourism. Another emphasis for his administration is the renewal of the older neighborhoods of the city. He cited Wanhua District as an example of urban renovation. For those who have watched the movie Mongka or visited the Bopiliao Historical District, they would know that today’s Wanhua is slowly returning to the center stage. He added that with the execution of the Smooth Road Project, Taipei’s roads and streets have improved significantly in terms of road quality. Responding to media questions about the upcoming mayoral election, Hau replied that he is confident of local residents and the achievements of his administration. Taipei City is an important symbol for the country, and he promised to do his best to win the campaign
