Songshan Primary School Celebrates 111th Anniversary
Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin attended the celebrations marking the 111th anniversary of the Songshan Primary School on April 24.
To commemorate the occasion, Hau planted a pine tree at the school garden and placed a memorial stone with the engraving “Song Jin Shan Pu” next to the seedling. He remarked that he hopes to change the situation where there are no pine trees on campus, even though the school has “pine” in its name (“song” in Chinese means “pine”).
Founded in 1898 as Xikou Public School, Songshan Primary School is the first and oldest school in Songshan district.
Amid the music of the school choir, the mayor joined City Councilors Tai His-chin and Wang Cheng-ter in cutting the birthday cake.
After the event, Mayor Hau arrived at Bihu Elementary School to attend in a charity fair. He met students, teachers and parents and took part in a series of activities, including sport meets, food fair and flea market.
