Mayor Attends Wenhau Elementary School’s English Fair
Wenhua Elementary School held its annual English Fair on May 15. Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin attended the event, praising the school’s efforts in strengthening the English ability of students through building an ideal environment for learning the language.
The Mayor visited a number of booths, experiencing a number of English conversation scenarios ranging from airport check-in/check-out counter, fast food restaurants, to banks. Hau pointed out that according to a report from education experts, the best amount of time allocated to learning foreign languages for students would be three to five class sessions per week. In light of this, the city government will design English lessons for local elementary schools based on this approach.
The mayor also shared his personal experience at learning English with students and parents. He stressed that practicing constantly is the only way to achieve positive results.
The Wenhau Elementary School is the first school to receive permission from the Department of Education to carry out the English Education Strengthening Program. Students take five English classes per week, taught by five international teachers.
