Taipei Costume and Culture Center Opens

Grand opening of Taipei Costume and Culture Center
In celebration of the opening of Taipei Costume and Culture Center on October 24, Taipei Mayor Ma Ying-jeou received a loud round of applauses from the audience as he walked down the runway in a dazzling creme Chinese costume alongside two local male celebrities. Formerly a public office building for Wanhua District Office, the 3-story building has been renovated and transformed into the Taipei Costume and Culture Center where future domestic culture and arts affairs will be promoted. According to Sebastian Liao, Commissioner of the Department of Culture Affair (DOCA), the building will enable the center to serve as a mean to foster originality, nurture creativity, and cultivate local trend-setters, particularly in the field of fashion, all in a central location. The Taipei Costume and Culture Center comprises mainly of a research and development center for designers, a runway for fashion shows, and design ateliers. Being a former resident of Wanhua, Mayor Ma noted that the center pledges to expand the existing apparel distribution channel and improve the visibility of Wanhua as the new hub of Taiwan’s fashion. Taipei Costume and Culture Center is currently holding a fashion exhibition on “100 Years of Taipei”until December 31.
