A delegation consisting of top officials from the Cyprus Deaf Sports Federation arrived at city hall and met with Deputy Mayor Lin Chien-yuan on September 8. Varnavas Papanicolaou, the president of the organization, also serves as the head of the group.
During the meeting, Papanicolaou expressed his condolence to Deputy Mayor Lin on the damages caused by Typhoon Morakot. He congratulated Taipei City Government on holding a successful opening ceremony for the 2009 Deaflympics and praised the hard working staff members for in ensuring security at the venue and receiving the guests.
Cyprus Athletic Federation Representative Christos Papapetrou, a member of the delegation, said he is visiting Taipei City Government on behalf of the Cyprus government. In addition to exchanging gifts, the representative expressed his hope that the people of Taiwan will be able to rebuild their homes in a short time.
Lin expressed his gratitude to the visiting guests for their support for both the games and Taiwan. He hopes that the 2009 Deaflympics will progress smoothly, wishing all the best to participating athletes.
