Mayor Apologizes for MRT Wenshan-Neihu Line Power Outage
Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin arrived at Taipei City Council to attend the Mayoral Interpellation Session on March 24. Many questions about recent malfunctions of the MRT Wenshan-Neihu Line were raised by city councilors.
At the session, Hau apologized to all passengers affected by the 33-minute service suspension, which took place during rush hour on March 24.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the system failure was the result of a safety mechanism shutting down power lines. Records show that the system detected abnormalities in electricity flow near the tunnel entrance of MRT Linguang Station prior to the incident.
Deputy Secretary General Tan Gwa-guang remarked that Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation will look further into the causes of the shutdown.
According to Hau, one cannot deny the improvements in terms of reliability of the MRT line when compared to the first days of operations. However, the city government will continue to work on the line’s stability and reliability, doing its best to improve aspects failing to meet expectations.
